What’s the point of this whole event anyway?
Edinburgh WNBR, like other WNBR events worldwide, has a noble mission: to raise awareness about cycling and promote a greener, more sustainable mode of transportation.
By stripping down and hopping on our bikes, we’re hoping to get people’s attention (and maybe a few chuckles) while advocating for a cleaner, healthier planet. So if you’re ready to ditch the car and join the revolution, just remember to pack your sense of humor – and maybe a good pair of cycling shorts.
Do I have to be fully naked?
No, the ride is “bare as you dare.” Wear as much or as little as you like.
Is the ride legal?
Yes! Public nudity in Scotland is not illegal unless it is done with the intention of causing alarm or distress. Check out the Behaviour and Legality page for more information.
Who can take part?
Anyone over 18 who shares the event’s ethos.
What is the route of the event?
Please see Route page for more details.
How can I get involved?
There are 3 ways you can get involved:
- Join the Ride – Participation is free! Just bring your bike, a smile, and your bare-as-you-dare spirit.
- Volunteer – Help organise, steward, or document the event, because protests run on passion and teamwork. Please reach out to the team via the Edinburgh WNBR Facebook Group and one of them will respond to your query.
What happens if there’s bad weather on the day of the cycling event?
While we hope for clear skies, Edinburgh weather in July can be unpredictable. In the event of severe conditions, such as heavy rain, strong winds, or thunderstorms, the safety of all riders, volunteers, and spectators is our top priority. If needed, we may delay, adjust, or cancel the event based on the latest forecasts and safety guidance.
We’ll keep you informed through our website, social media, and email or text alerts (if you’ve registered). If the weather improves later in the day, we may proceed with a revised schedule, so please check for updates before setting off.
If you feel unsafe cycling due to the weather, we understand entirely—please use your best judgment. We recommend dressing appropriately, bringing waterproof gear, and staying tuned for real-time updates.
Are there any accessibility considerations for the cycling route?
Yes — we want to be transparent about the route so everyone can plan accordingly. The cycle route includes hilly sections, cobbled streets in Edinburgh’s Old Town, and regular stops at traffic lights, which may present challenges for some riders.
We welcome cyclists of all abilities and are committed to making the event as inclusive as possible. If you have specific accessibility needs or require accommodations to participate comfortably, please don’t hesitate to contact us at info@wnbr.scot.
We’ll do our best to support you.
Where can I go for more information?
Please send an email to info@wnbr.scot, and a member of our team will respond to you.
